Low Back Pain

Does this sound familiar?

  • Low back pain from a specific accident i.e lifting or sport injury?

  • Pain and stiffness in the low back for no known reason?

  • Difficulty or pain when turning over in bed at night?

  • Pain and stiffness in the low back first thing in the morning?

  • Pain and stiffness when standing or sitting for long periods?

  • Pain when completing day-to-day tasks that involve bending or lifting?

  • Sciatica symptoms, a dull ache or referred pain into the buttock or down the leg?

  • Tried various remedies, medications, exercises, and treatments but no relief?

If any of this sounds familiar to you, you are not alone! It is estimated that 2 in every 3 people will suffer with pain in their lower back at some point in their lives.

However, there is a great deal that can be done to help – you do not have to suffer each day being in pain. The first step towards effective treatment is taking an active approach.

Physiotherapy is one of the most widely used forms of treatment adopted for gaining relief from low back pain.

With so many possible causative factors, structure involvement (including disc, muscle, ligament, nerves, joints) and demands from modern lifestyle, it is crucial a thorough assessment of your low back is carried out to gain an accurate diagnosis which identifies the root cause of your pain.

How can Niall McNamara Physiotherapy help?

We specialise in musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy which includes both the assessment and treatment of spinal injuries or conditions which affect bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves, and spinal discs.
Once the underlying cause of your pain has been accurately identified at our initial consultation, we will utilise a multifaceted treatment approach tailored to your specific goals.

What type of treatment will you receive?

The recommended treatment for your back pain will vary with the cause of your pain however our treatment approach may combine any of the following:

  1. Manual Therapy or “hands-on” physiotherapy

  2. Bespoke exercise prescription including stretching and mobility exercises

  3. Tailored strength and conditioning programme to restore “normal” function

  4. Biomechanical correction to reinstate correct walking pattern and mechanical loading from the feet up

  5. Acupuncture/Dry needling

  6. Self-management strategies including ergonomic advice
